Ask Yourself These Questions Before You Sell Vinyl Records

Unless you’re an avid collector or prone to excessive nostalgia, you probably don’t have much use for your old records. In fact, it’s probably time to sell a few of them, isn’t it? You have a few options when doing so, but how do you make sure that you’re selling them for the right price and the right buyer? How do you make the most of it and get some money out of it? Well, here are a few questions you should ask yourself whenever you’re looking to sell vinyl records.

Is it a Rare Record?

First of all, you need to ask yourself whether or not the record you are holding on to is actually worth something. Who determines this? Well, the market. Supply and demand, right? Did this record sell millions and millions of copies? Was it immensely popular when it was first released? Does it remain in the popular consciousness to a significantly popular degree? Well, if that’s the case, there are probably quite a lot of copies still going around out there. In fact, there are probably way too many out there, to the point at which everyone who wants said record probably already has a copy. The rarer and more obscure the vinyl in question is, the more likely it is actually worth something.

Is it in Good Condition?

People want to buy vinyl records for two reasons: to listen to them or to show them off. This means that both the cover and the record itself has to be in good condition. What’s the use of the record if it has major scratches across the surface? And who will want to showcase an album cover with noticeable wear and tear? No, if you want to get the most out of the record you’re selling, then you need to make sure that it is in optimal condition overall. This doesn’t always mean mint condition, mind you. After all, if the record is rare enough, a little damage won’t exactly matter. Just make sure that it looks good and that it can actually be played without skips surface noise or scratches.

Is it in Demand?

You probably don’t want to just find a place that will buy whatever records you have in bulk. These places will not always give you the best price for them because they don’t even know if they will actually find any buyers. The way to make sure that you actually sell quality vinyl records for a fair price is to find buyers who are actively seeking the records you have to offer. You’d be surprised at just how many records are actively in demand from buyers. Make sure to do your research on the topic and find the best people to sell your records to. This will go a long way toward getting the money you want.
