Why Sell To Rockaway?

Rockaway has been buying and selling vinyl and music collectibles since 1979. Our professional, expert buyers have 200 years combined experience buying vinyl, posters, autographs, memorabilia, awards, and just about any other music collectibles. We consistently pay more than our competitors for rare items and entire collections.

We will travel worldwide for valuable collections. We’re mainly looking for rare and high-end collectibles, but we’ll buy a complete collection if it is of high quality overall. If we’re not interested in the entire collection, we’ll offer to “cherry pick” it. But because the prices we pay for just the rare collectibles are so generous, the amount we pay for perhaps the best 10 or 20% of the collection is often higher than the seller might be offered for the whole collection by someone else!

Thinking of selling on eBay or consigning to an auction house? Neither is guaranteed to achieve the best results. There are some important things to consider.

  • You should know that auctions are hit and miss. Occasionally, items do sell for extremely high amounts, but most of the time the final, realized eBay and auction house prices are less than our own retail prices.
  • The amount you receive from them is often less than what we would have paid you outright, especially after you pay the many fees and have to wait many months to receive your cut.

In fact, we ourselves buy many items from eBay and auctions because lots of items sell way too cheaply. One time, a major auction house was offering a belt buckle that was owned by John Lennon. We bid $4,000 and won it. We then sold that buckle for $15,000! After waiting about six months - and after all the fees were deducted - the consignor only received about $2,500 from the auction house. If he had come to us directly, we would have gladly paid him $10,000 cash on the spot.

Another time, a local LA collector offered us a rare Beatles 45. We offered him $2,000 cash for it. He declined, saying he’d just sell it on eBay. We then bid $2,000 for it, but won it for only $350 because nobody bid any higher!

Very few, if any, of our competitors have the expertise to buy the different kinds of music collectibles that we do. There are valuable collectibles to be found in every category. We will buy LPs, 45s, autographs, posters, promotional items, CDs, RIAA awards, vintage t-shirts, concert swag, press kits, and lots more.
