BEATLES
Ain't She Sweet
1964 original one-sided 10" mono metal acetate of 7" 45 released on Atco Records.
In early 1964, shortly after Beatlemania exploded in the United States, MGM Records leased the rights to four of the eight Beatles 1962 Hamburg recordings. MGM rapidly released these four songs in the first half of 1964 with tremendous success and were preparing to release singles for the remaining four Beatles Hamburg recordings in the second half of the year. MGM prepared this acetate of Ain’t She Sweet only to learn shortly thereafter that Atlantic Records had replaced MGM for the rights to the four remaining Beatles Hamburg recordings.
This MGM acetate is the only known artifact of the planned/unreleased 45 from mid 1964. A truly unique and exciting piece from the height of Beatlemania.
When Atlantic Records released Ain’t She Sweet on July 6th, 1964 (Atco 45-6308), the label indicated the artist as "The Beatles", but added "Vocal By John Lennon". The MGM acetate has the artist name typed as "The Beatles - John Lennon", again singling out John as the lead vocal. Clearly not a coincidence but likely marketing driven.
The lacquer looks well-used, but plays well with no skips and some moderate background noise.
100% guaranteed authentic acetate, not fake like many acetates offered online. This is the only one we've ever seen!
