JIMI HENDRIX & OTHERS
Monterey International Pop Festival
1967 original 12 1/4" x 21 3/8" poster advertising the legendary music festival at the Monterey County Fairgrounds in Monterey, California on June 16th, 17th & 18th. The concerts featured Jimi Hendrix Experience (first ever US appearance), Janis Joplin With Big Brother And The Holding Company, The Grateful Dead, The Who, Otis Redding, Jefferson Airplane, The Byrds, Ravi Shankar, Simon And Garfunkel, Johnny Rivers, The Mamas And The Papas, Eric Burdon And The Animals, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Country Joe And The Fish, The Butterfield Blues Band, Electic Flag, The Association, Moby Grape, Booker T & The MG's, The Blues Project and others.
This poster was designed by Tom Wilkes, who was the art director for the festival and also put together the program for the event. Two sizes were produced, this being the smaller one. The poster is very fragile, is it was printed on foil paper and is almost impossible to find in unused near mint condition, as this is. The beautiful graphics are stunning and without any holes, tears, creases or fading, the colors just "pop"! This is by far the best condition example we've ever had. A similar condition (slabbed and graded) example sold at auction in November 2022 for $30,000.
